Robert Mapplethorpe Nació en Long Island en 1946, en el seno de una familia acomodada y de tradiciones consolidadas. A los 16 años se fue de casa para instalarse en Brooklyn y estudiar pintura y escultura. Su interés por la fotografía fue creciendo a medida que crecía su interés por las imágenes prohibidas de los sex-shops. Sus primeros collages provienen de recortar fotografías de las revistas pornográficas.Comenzó su carrera fotográfica usando una Polaroid, y con la única finalidad de poder usar estas fotografías como inspiración y guía de su pintura. Sus primeras fotos fueron autorretratos y retratos de su compañera sentimental Patti Smith (cantante-artista y poeta de reconocido talento). Poco a poco fue mejorando su técnica y ampliando su repertorio a base de hacer retratos en sus círculos más cercanos, los cuales los formaban artistas, compositores, estrellas del cine porno y la mayoría de la escena underground de Brooklyn. Entre los retratos que realizó podemos encontrarnos con personajes de fama mundial como el excéntrico Andy Warhol, el escritor William Burroughs (El almuerzo Desnudo), el poeta Jim Carroll (al que retrató durante una relación sexual gay) o al cantante Mick Jagger. El escándalo siempre rodeó su obra y sus exposiciones estaban llenas de polémica y prohibiciones. Y es que en muchas ocasiones, la temática de sus fotos, sobrepasaba con creces lo "socialmente aceptado": desnudos, relaciones sadomasoquistas, genitales erectos y parejas homosexuales. Pero su intención no era escandalizar, el trataba de encontrar lo inesperado y de capturar imágenes que no se hubieran visto antes. En una de sus declaraciones dijo: "Me encontraba en el lugar adecuado para sacar esas fotos y sentí la obligación de hacerlas". En cualquier caso su trabajo no termina aquí, ya que también tiene series espléndidas dedicadas a los retratos de celebridades o la belleza de los flores. Sabemos que también se inició en el mundo del cine con una serie de cortometrajes, pero la crudeza de las imágenes y el escándalo le impidieron hacer carrera en este sector. Sus películas rara vez se han visto y son realmente difíciles se conseguir. Algunos de los títulos son : "Robert Anillándose El Pezón" o "Patti Cambiándose La Compresa". Murió de SIDA el 9 de marzo de 1989. Antes de morir fundó The Robert Mapplethorpe Fundation, Inc, una fundación que por un lado financia investigaciones médicas sobre el SIDA y por otro programas institucionales sobre fotografía.

This is a mockumentary released in 1998, a full year before THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. Bristling with equipment, two enthusiastic public access television producers recruit an assistant and venture into the pine barrens of New Jersey in search of the mythical and horrifying "Jersey Devil". Days later, only one of the trio emerges. He becomes the prime suspect in the disappearance of the other two. However, a local filmmaker examines extensive footage found at the scene and arrives at a different conclusion. A great shock ending!
